Various forms of localized hyperpigmentation affect mature adults. These range from sun spots and age spots to rosacea and increasingly pronounced freckles. Skin ages just like any other part of the body, and superficial and subdermal blemishes are the result. One of the most efficient treatments for skin blemishes is microneedling.
This is a minimally-invasive procedure that acts as a stimulus for the production of collagen. It also kickstarts a skin rejuvenation process whereby damaged cells are replaced by healthier ones. We highly recommend this treatment to our clients who bring us their concerns about injury scars, acne scars, age spots, and other types of blemishes.
During the treatment, a multitude of tiny channels are produced, and these extend just a few millimeters into the skin. The majority of the skin surface in the treated area isn’t affected by the first series of wound creations, but after about a month, during which the procedure is repeated several times, virtually all of the skin in a given surface area has been needled.
This causes the body to respond to injury, and it also stimulates collagen production. This is why microneedling is often referred to as collagen induction therapy. PRP can be added to the treatment for enhanced results.
How It’s Performed
We consult with you so that we can examine your skin’s trouble spots. Most blemishes are the result of environmental factors or injury. Acne scarring and injury scarring can remain for the rest of your life because these problem cells keep on reproducing themselves via division.
The micro-channels quickly fill up with lymphatic fluid and nutrients. The adjacent cells, unaffected by the creation of the wound, serve as a blueprint for the creation of healthy tissue growth. We generally schedule about four or five treatment sessions, and these are spaced out over a period of about a month.
Rapid Improvement in Skin Tone
The process of tissue replacement and collagen remodeling continues for quite some time after the treatment series is completed. Eventually, the blemishes fade from view, and the overall skin tone and texture is improved because of the increase in collagen and other proteins in the skin.
This treatment is sometimes combined with other forms of skin rejuvenation techniques such as platelet-rich plasma or dermal fillers. During the consultation, we’ll discuss these options.
